observations on aquarius

aquarius moons, like other air moons, can treat their emotions kind of like a puzzle; they turn them over in their hands and really break down and analyse their thoughts and feelings. aquarius moons in particular tend to be very focused on the wider impact of their actions and emotions, which, while a testament to their kind and caring nature, can get in the way of them experiencing their full emotional range and the insight that comes with that.

a lot of people with aquarius dominance can go through life feeling dreadfully lonely. though (depending on individual placements) they often pride themselves on being different, or not needing to follow the crowd, deep down they can feel they don't belong, or aren't 'normal'. really, their uniqueness is what makes them beautiful, and while their journey isn't always predictable, they generally find their tribe along the way, and become people with a strong sense of self and steady values that guide them and their relationships.

aquarius on the ascendant tends to have a reputation for looking 'alien-like' or asymmetric, and while the second one especially can be true, my opinion is that a lot of aquarius risings have a doll-like beauty, with very fine and neat features, not unlike virgo risings actually. what sets them apart is that they are more expressive with their style, more congruent and more open to showing their true selves through their clothing. they are prouder and stronger that way, almost more dramatic.

mars in aquarius is a placement that has a strange relationship with anger and assertiveness. they tend to be very cool people, in that they're stoic, relaxed, grounded and pragmatic; they aren't as controlling or fearful as a fixed mars tends to be. but they can be quite detached from their anger and agency, and so if they aren't self-reflective, they don't see how it can affect those around them when they are angry. they are prone to anger at the state of the world and are sensitive to justice - or injustice, rather - but can be erratic in how they display this, at times seeming uncaring.

jupiter in aquarius is a placement that brings a lot of kindness, a lot of generosity, but a strict will and a clear vision. they are dreamers at heart, like a lot of aquarian placements, but if it's channeled properly, jupiter in aquarius gives the native the power and confidence to succeed. the other interesting thing about this placement is that the native tends to love to work; as long as the work means something to them, as long as it does good. they absolutely cannot work just to make money, it's bad for their souls.

aquarius in the sixth house can bring health issues that appear suddenly, are hard to diagnose or treat, or come and go. they may have unusual symptoms or reactions to things, and the phrase 'when you hear hoofbeats, think horses' doesn't tend to apply so well to them. somewhat nervous individuals, aquarius in the sixth house natives can be sensitive to lifestyle factors that help or hinder their health, and so they need a solid (if maybe a little unconventional) routine to really flourish.

aquarius suns are some of the funniest people i've ever met. they have a real deadpan, dry sense of humour and their serious delivery just makes the joke land better. although they may have unconventional taste in material, they don't tend towards the inappropriate and in fact are very even and fair in their roasts. maybe for this reason, they aren't the best roasters, but at least you know you won't be traumatised if an aquarius roasts you...

venus in aquarius gets a reputation for being distant, 'away with the fairies', even unromantic, but i don't think that's true at all. while they are a more grounded and cerebral placement for venus to be in, these natives are incredibly sweet. when they love someone, they will tell them so in a thousand tiny ways. they're the type to take their time getting to know every part of you, down to your microexpressions and innermost worries and favourites.

Sun in Leo - Too much dramatic approach to life, less vision of what things really are. Some Leos sometimes struggle to approach life and their issues realistically and concretely. This is normal to some extent, part of the process. The negative aspect is when this becomes extreme and the only way to deal with life. Imagination and creativity (which ultimately underlie drama, often an exaggeration of creativity and imagination) are important facets, as your essence involves being creative and playful. But be aware of how much you don’t see things as they really are when dealing with life in an overly creative way. Aquarius Placements & Autonomy

While I don't inherently have major Aquarius placements, I have exposed myself quite often to those that do. I noticed that Aquarians are considered "unlike" others typically in some form of physical or verbal expression. Even if it is masked through another ascendant or some other factors, I feel even the slightest portion of that energy showcases something that is independent and unique. Mainly, there is a focus on physical expression.

However, why exactly? Many people I know with such placements dislike the stereotypes of Aquarius and feel as though they aren't just pushed into uniqueness (or the hated word, "quirkiness") — they either find it to be inaccurate or very defensively hold an extreme pride towards it. The latter, I think I'm starting to discover, arises from extreme insecurity. Not to say it is wrongful, but I know with my Mars in Aquarius placement, I outwardly express my Marsian qualities quite strategically and independently because I feel internal or external pressures attempting to "rid me of it." In theory, I am curious if majority of the independent qualities showcased within Aquarius is due to issues of autonomy. Sun in Aquarius' fight tooth and nail to have an assertiveness over their own ego/identity. Moon in Aquarius, from my observations, are very defensive and controlling over their internal world. While they may be conversationally relaxed and unbothered, if someone tried to admit influence in some form, there is a very intense backlash. Whether it is an actual external pressure or an internal choke-hold of repression, the Saturn rulership provokes a very intense dynamic of control that clashes with the need to be physically seen as someone with social prowess. While they flourish in social environments due to the 11th house, they also are constantly in defense for the next person to "take" who they are — insinuating a forever conflict that ebbs and flows differently at all times.

Explaining Dignities: Detriment (Sun, Moon, Mercury and Venus)

2nd post on dignities! Hope you enjoy 🤩

Context: In Hellenistic (traditional) astrology, planets in detriment (or debilitated planets) are planetary rulers who sit in its contrary sign (the opposite of its domicile sign), such as Moon in Capricorn. They are said to be like foreigners in a land where they don’t speak the same language and are not familiar with the resources available in that place. Because of that, they cannot express their personality well and find success easily, as they need double the effort to accomplish their goals. With time, they can learn to make the best out of what’s given, but things will not be as easy as with exalted planets or in domicile. Planets in detriment tend to create delays and challenges in the house they occupy.

*Mind that below I’m speaking metaphorically of “house” as the SIGN the planet is exalted, and not the astrological house (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) as such.*

Also, my intention is not to "condemn" people with these placements. As with everything, there are positive and negative interpretations, but for the purpose of this topic, I'll be centering on the challenges only.

Sun in Aquarius: When the Sun is in Aquarius, his powerful and charismatic personality feels threatened. He’s at odds because he cannot be a creative leader and a community ally at the same time. He trades his uniqueness for a sense of belonging and feels like an outsider when he doesn’t achieve this. The Sun is frustrated, as he’s pushed aside from the limelight. He has to accept that his host prefers transcendence and unity over fun, passion, competition and recreation… the things he loves! Aquarius tries to get rid of his need for recognition and superiority in an attempt to make him fit into the masses, and while the Sun finds some sort of value in it, he misses his followers, as he feels underappreciated and misunderstood. After all, he lives for the drama, the theaters! His charisma is of no use in this gray and futuristic laboratory, where he has to learn to get in touch with his shine and brilliance from a mental place instead of his heart. His natural self-expression and emotionality need to be contained and transformed into scientific and innovative concepts that will help humankind, not amaze, or entertain it, as he wishes to.

Moon in Capricorn: When Capricorn receives the Moon, he finds her sensitivity too overwhelming and disturbing. He finds it hard to tolerate her fragility and self-expression, as he wants to keep things under control and practical. Facing drama makes him nervous, so he tries to avoid anything disturbing the Moon may complain about; this creates distance, insecurity and discomfort between hosts. The Moon feels misunderstood, lonely, and alienated from what makes her happy. In this ancient and lonely place, she’s gloomy because she cannot create a cozy and hearty home, where people feel welcomed and she’s able to take care of them without feeling judged or weak. Since she’s ripped away from emotional closeness, depression and exhaustion enter right away, as her host seems to be obsessed with duties, work, and material goals. She does not understand why life has to be so cold and serious. What is she supposed to do with all this vulnerability and depth in a place that sees them as undesirable?

Mercury in Sagittarius: Sagittarius is adventurous, expansive and preoccupied with the larger picture, so when Mercury lands into this spacious and disorganized household, he’s overwhelmed and lost. He wants to rearrange things and be as scrupulous as he can so he can make sense out of it all, but in here he has no idea where to begin, or if it’s even possible! He’s not interested in philosophy or spirituality as his host does, as he prefers facts and logical explanations to understand the world. Where he comes from, knowledge cannot beat experience, contrary the abstract and diluted things he finds in this amusement park. Because there are no clear guidelines, books or archives to find his answers, he has to turn into his underused intuition and sense of faith to find clarity. His host just wants him to be excited and have fun without worrying about the minor details! Therefore, his valued brain power seems to not be as useful as before, making him feel ungrounded and confused most of the time. He finds out that it’s better to just go with the flow and ends up sacrificing his methodical approaches for disorder, recklessness and impulsiveness because he gets tired of trying to do things objectively and rationally.

Mercury in Pisces: Because Pisces is boundless and diluted, Mercury experiences a similar effect of anxiety and frustration as before when he enters the watery and nebulous chambers of his host’s homebase. Mercury needs libraries, schools and constant communication and interactions to feel happy, but in here, he feels alone in the middle of nowhere and things are just too mystical to be digested with common sense. He finds it hard to navigate the temple of the unseen realms, as he’s used to approaching life from his scientific rationale. There are so many things that don’t make sense here! Yes, there are interesting concepts in here and while he learns a thing or two, he loses track of applicable information for “the real world” and inadvertently turns impractical because the knowledge he stumbles upon can only live in the lands of the intangible, dreams or fairytales. He cannot differentiate between illusions and lies from real facts. Because there’s no impartial or logical point of reference, he frequently may be caught up by deceitful communication. His confusion can drive him towards victimhood or self-undoing tendencies, in an attempt to escape what he cannot cope with logically (which can be a lot!).

Venus in Aries: When the planet of love, beauty and harmony enters this host’s home, she feels threatened and uninvited. She feels too weak and scared in a place where war and blood are the bread of everyday. She does not tolerate violence well, but this is what is expected of her in here. Venus understands that she must defend herself to survive, and although she has the resources to do that, she feels unhappy because her soft, passive, gentle and kind approach towards life cannot be expressed without being seen as a liability, a weakness. Cooperation and partnerships are hard to maintain here, because her host couldn’t be less interested healthy connections or other people's wellbeing. He only looks out for himself and makes sure Venus knows this! She feels unable to relax because she’s constantly pushed towards violence and exhausting combat. Venus hates so much chaos and egoism! She and her host bump into each other because both want to follow their own agendas. Tension and ego-clashes will surface, especially if her provoked violence goes to extremes. In an attempt to preserve her values, she can lash out unnecessarily or become passive-aggressive because she is constantly irritated or frustrated about her surroundings. After all, the way she's allowed to love is contrary to what she's used to.

Venus is used to thrive in a place of beauty, peace, and relaxation, but in here, her host loves the tenebrous and complicated. The Great Aquarius Spell of 2024

This month (January 2024) has two days that strongly highlight Aquarius and Uranus energy. For those in the know, the sign of Aquarius and Uranus, its planetary ruler, are the rebels, the rulebreakers, the big thinkers, and the revolutionists of the astrological zodiac.

I want to list for you a couple of famous Aquariuses throughout history for a moment so might get an idea of what I mean here: Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Edison, Ferdinand Magellan, Fredrick Douglas, Charles Darwin, Galileo Galilei, Yoko One, Charles Lindbergh, Aaron Burr, Bob Marley, Kim Jong-Il, Rosa Parks, and Grigori Rasputin.

One thing that can be said for the Aquarius spirit is that it rarely leads to a milk toast personality. From great revolutionaries to despots to peace activists, Aquarius is THE sign of political change, the kind of change that ripples through history.

Circle these two days on your calendar:

On Saturday, 1/20, the Sun and Pluto meet up in conjunction and move in lockstep with one another into the sign of Aquarius.

One week later, on 1/27, Uranus stations direct.

These are the kind of days when change happens. But we witches don't just let change happen, we MAKE change happen. This is the best aligned chance to enact real and lasting change - the kind of change that the above listed Aquariuses made - for quite some time.

We just need to use it.

As stated above, I am not going to outline an exact ritual or spell for you here because this spell needs to come from you. It should, in some way, reflect the change that YOU want to see in the world.

But I will give you some places to start.

A General Spell Framework

There are three major players in these powerhouse days. 1/20 involves the Sun, Uranus, and Pluto and 1/27 involves Uranus. As outer planets, Uranus and Pluto are considered beyond human influence and most astrologers believe that they cannot be petitioned in the same way that the seven planetary powers can. The Sun, on the other hand, can be. Create an altar to the Sun. Moreover, create an altar to the Sun in the sign of Aquarius. Aquarius is our fixed air sign so elements of air can be added to your altar. Additionally, you could include photos of famous Aquarius changemakers that you particularly admire or even non-Aquarius changemakers who worked with the particular cause you are championing. The Sun supports life itself, Uranus and Pluto are our planets of change, and Aquarius supports community of all kinds. Intentions around the world as one community will be highly effective during this time. If you are struggling for an intention, something like "Everybody deserves more love, not less" is a reasonable place to start.

Think big. The sky is the limit here. This isn't a day for magic to fix your own life - this is a day for magic to fix the world. Do you want to stop climate instability? End homelessness? Redress great injustices?

The symbols for the Sun, Uranus, Pluto, and Aquarius may prove useful in your spellwork. You can carve them onto candles or onto petition papers.

If you work with tarot in your spellwork, there are a few cards that can be worked with to enact great changes. The one that comes to mind immediately is the Death Card because what greater change exists than to exit this life for the next? The death cards can be directed to remove anything from a situation through a metaphorical "killing" of it. And then, of course, we have the Tower - the OG card connected to the energy of Uranus. The Tower is associated with dramatic and unthinkable change (as the card depicts) but it has a deeper esoteric association with the changing of belief systems, like the sign of Aquarius! And then we have Judgment which can serve the purpose of bringing about consequences to those that need to face their actions.

Alternatively, if you work with runes, both the Dagaz and the Tiwaz runes can be used to enact change (Dagaz, as a brand new day and a brand new chance) and Tiwaz (to enact divine justice). The rune Halagaz can also be used similarly to the Tower card to bring down systems and enact the change of inevitability. Though I find the energy of Hagalaz to be similar to that of the Tower, I favor the rune in this case as it implies the inevitable rebirth at the end of the change: when the ice melts, new things will grow again.

We’ve reached an interesting time in history. What ever we begin now, are working on or are even thinking about will be part of our transformation over the next 20 years.

We have a new moon in Aquarius today. That’s when the sun and the moon meet up in the sky. This particular one is special because it’s the first new moon in our lifetime where Pluto is present. Mercury is in on this party too and together they are invoking transformation in our mind, emotional body and basic sense of self. What are you doing right now? What are you creating and who are the people you are surrounding yourself with? More importantly, do you see yourself in the current environment you find yourself in over the next two decades? If you’re not where you’d like to be, that’s ok. Today, you also get the chance to envision and manifest the path you’d like to be on.

This new moon will not only have very strong transformational energies attached to it but also abrupt change. Uranus in Taurus is tensely squaring the sun and moon in Aquarius. It’s an environment that can bring in immediate success or have you changing your mind for good, leaving old frustrations behind. With Uranus and Pluto involved it also creates massive changes on a global scale so what we all personally manifest, whether intentional or not can impact society as a whole. The current events are especially worth noting.

He also likes to see his projects bearing fruit soon (Mars in Aquarius). He rarely changes his mind, as Mars in Aquarius is very stubborn, when he gets an idea in his head he will pursue it fanatically. No one can stop him, as Mars in this sign is unstoppable, he goes after what he wants, fighting for his ideals in an unbeatable way (Mars in the 8th house).

He is very critical of himself and others(Moon in Virgo), he generally doesn't take people's opinions into consideration, which can hurt them, but he doesn't criticize to harm people, he really wants to see things around him improve.

He has the Moon in the 2nd house, which means that financial security is very important to him, the accumulation of financial resources is something that brings him comfort and emotional security on a certain level. He also knows his worth, knowing how to nurture himself (Moon in the 2nd house + Sun in Cancer) and others.

Elon Musk is very affectionate and generous with the people he loves, he is always giving gifts (Moon in the 2nd house), sometimes he does this to compensate for his absence in the lives of those he loves (Sun + Venus in the 12th house: absence), but he is always thinking about these people while he works (Moon in the 2nd house).

As his 6th house begins in Sagittarius he has physical vigor, he doesn't get sick easily, he likes to do things that give him energy on a daily basis, this is good because his Sun and Venus in the 12th house could have given him low immunity.

He also loses interest, romantically speaking, if the relationship lacks intellectual stimulation or if the other person no longer stimulates his curiosity, as he likes new things, especially with Uranus in the 3rd house and Venus in Gemini.

Also, with Uranus in the 3rd house he is very open-minded, unconventional and finds it very difficult to fit into conventional patterns. His mind doesn't sit still and his thoughts are so fast that sometimes everything gets jumbled in his mind, even though he knows almost intuitively how each thought and idea connects together.
